Integrations
PostHog
Last updated: September 2026
What it does
The PostHog integration adds three widgets to your Vyrd Today dashboard:
- Visitors: unique people who viewed a page, with a trend for today, 7 days, or 30 days.
- Traffic sources: which sites sent those visitors.
- Top pages: the pages they looked at most.
Vyrd only reads. It runs small read-only queries on your page-view events and never sends, changes, or deletes anything in PostHog.
1. Create a read-only key in PostHog
- In PostHog, open Settings → Personal API keys and click Create personal API key.
- Label it Vyrd.
- Under Organization & project access, choose Projects and pick the one project Vyrd should read.
- Under Scopes, leave everything on No access except two. Use the scope search box: type query and set Query to Read, then type project and set Project to Read. Don't use a preset.
- Click Create key and copy it right away. It starts with
phx_, and PostHog only shows it once.
2. Connect it in Vyrd
- In Vyrd, open Connectors in the sidebar and choose PostHog.
- Pick your region: EU cloud if your PostHog address is eu.posthog.com, US cloud if it's us.posthog.com.
- Paste the
phx_key. - Enter the project ID: the number after
/project/in your PostHog address, for example eu.posthog.com/project/12345. - Click Connect. Vyrd checks both scopes on that project before saving, and the Visitors widget appears on Today.
To add Traffic sources or Top pages, click Edit on Today, then Add widget → PostHog.
Your site needs to be sending page views to PostHog (the $pageview event, which PostHog's web snippet captures by default). If it doesn't yet, the widgets show zero.
Which keys are which
- Personal API key (
phx_): what Vyrd needs. It can read data, limited to the scopes you chose. - Project API key or project token (
phc_, under Project settings → General → SDK setup): only sends events from your website. Vyrd refuses it because it can't read anything.
What we store
- The personal API key, encrypted (AES-256-GCM) before it's saved. It can only be read by our servers and is never sent to your browser.
- Your region and the project's ID and name.
- A short-lived copy of the numbers the widgets show, refreshed at most every 10 minutes while Today is open. This keeps Vyrd well inside PostHog's query allowance.
This data belongs to the workspace you connected it in, and is not sent to our AI provider. See the privacy policy.
Disconnect
- In Vyrd, open Connectors → PostHog and click Disconnect. This deletes the stored key and all cached numbers.
- To revoke the key completely, delete it in PostHog under Settings → Personal API keys.
Troubleshooting
- “This key is missing a scope” or a permission message. Edit the key in PostHog and set Query and Project to Read.
- “PostHog no longer accepts this key.” The key was deleted, or you picked the wrong region. Reconnect with the right region.
- “That isn't a PostHog project ID.” Use only the number after
/project/in the address bar. - The widgets show zero. Your site isn't sending
$pageviewevents yet, or the period is empty. Check in PostHog under Web analytics. - “PostHog's query allowance … is used up.” The free plan has a query budget. The widgets keep their last numbers and try again later.
